I think the challenge is that adoptive families face, in my opinion, start with a notion that I hear a lot about, which is that possibly for adopted children and their relationship to their biological families could somewhat be at odds as far as adoptive parents think with their connection to their child. I really want to stress that I think that notion is untrue; it's unfounded. And I think on the flip-side of the coin, I think it's really important for adopted children to have, if possible, that connection to their birth family and to have as much information as they can. And that will only better the bond between you and your adopted child. I think that issues for adoptive families are no more prevalent than issues for every other type of family; I just think that possibly sometimes the issues are different. I think your child may face issues with the fact that they may be different from some of their peers with respect to their family makeup. But they may even face issues in their own home if perhaps some of their siblings even are not adopted, and maybe that poses issues for both children. But at the end of the day, I think that no matter what the issues that come about, if your child knows that you're there to help them process those issues, to overcome those issues and move forward, that's all that really is needed.
