Benefits of Mommy and Me exercise classes

The benefits of joining a Mommy & Me exercise class are definitely threefold. One is that you have, hopefully, a fitness instructor who is extremely knowledgable in the physiological and psychological changes that take place during pregnancy, delivery, as well as postpartum. There's a lot of muscles, ligaments, things going stretched, and nothing is back to normal, especially if you've rejoined that group around six weeks to six months after having that baby. Your body's still in baby mode. So that instructor should be knowledgable in terms of providing you with the appropriate exercises and modifications necessary for you to regain the strength in the areas affected by pregnancy, delivery, and as I like to call it, mommyhood. And the second thing is that you have the comradery of the group; you may be with moms who are in the same situation as you when they have new babies, and your body just doesn't look like anything that you thought it would, or anything recognizable to what you thought it looked like before. And so you have that support group where there's other moms there who are kind of going through the same body image issues. The last thing is moms who are older and creating a community of moms together. The moms who are older can provide you with the support that you can get there. "I have a two-year old, and I was there and now I'm here." And hearing those personal stories from moms I think is really motivational and inspiring for them to know that they're going to get to where they want to be. They may not be where they are right now, but they're going to get there. And these moms, they do playgroups possibly afterwards, they go out on their own without their children, and I know, me personally, I've had mommy friends from teaching classes that are my closest friends right now, still a few years later.

Outside the gym, Farrah teaches Mommy and Me stroller exercise classes in the park, focusing on helping moms lose their baby weight, while increasing strength in areas affected by pregnancy, childbirth, and mommy-hood. She creates individualized programs combining balance, strength, circuit, and agility as well as core stabilization designed to help moms look and feel great about their bodies.
