So, many things that you should think about if you're going to return to exercise after pregnancy is number 1 make sure that you get your doctor's okay especially if you've had a C-section. You can always start a walking program. After I had my C-section, I had me up and out of the bed 48 hours after surgery so you could always start walking. It's really good to walk with the stroller. Don't carry the baby on you. Again, your body's still out of whack from the pregnancy and being pulled in different directions. What's really important is that you're going to focus on a muscle called your transverse abdominus. You're literally going to build the strength back up from the inside out. It's the innermost abdominal muscle and it wraps around your torso like a belt right around your belly button and what we want to do is we want to focus on getting that mind-body connection back. It's focusing on the torso and it's focusing on our upper back muscles. Again, you get created this kyphotic curve when you go into pregnancy and it forces the top of your shoulders to roll forward so you want to focus on really regaining your posture in a proper direction. So, focusing on keeping your shoulders, pushed down out of your ears, rolled back behind you, keep your chest lifted, and keep those abdominal muscles again, that transverse abdominus pulled in tight just while you're sitting there can really help you regain that strength back.
