I think that when you are in the depths of misery, with postpartem depression and anxiety, it is hard to hear from someone that there could be anything good coming out of it. However, at the risk of making you feel slightly uncomfortable to hear this, I will say that I think I am overall a better human being for being through PPD. I have empathy now for other people and their struggles. I have a better understanding of the importance to everyone of emotional health. I have more empathy for moms, not just those who go through postpartem depression, but any other type of struggle, and there are many as we all know. And I think there's something about being vulnerable that allows you to be a role model to your children. That it's ok to be vulnerable. It's ok to be imperfect. It's ok to have periods when you are unhappy and you are unsure. And you can keep going and persevere and get through those. And that's a gift - it is a gift you can give your children.
