I do think that my emergency c-section contributed to my postpartum. It was a very unexpected experience, I had planned out how this birth was going to go, it was going to be natural and beautiful, and it was nothing like that. It was fast, and quick and scary and I could… physically, I hadn’t anticipated what it was going to be like. So I was really depressed. Depressed that it wasn’t the birth I wanted to have. Depressed and scared that my child wasn’t okay, that I wasn’t healthy. And I sat with that for a long time and I didn’t ask for help. I didn’t know how to reach out to people. I didn’t know who to reach out to. It was a really dark time. Finally, it dawned on me maybe a therapist could help me. So I did start going to a therapist and her immediate advice was, “Every day you have to have a shower before 10 o’clock. All you have to do is get up and get showered before 10 o’clock.” And honestly, I did that one thing and life started to change. And then I started to take a walk. And then I started to walk with my baby. And life got just incrementally easier once I knew what to do.
