Transcription:
Your physician or nurse may often ask you about the extended family. What about siblings? Siblings are an important part of your family. And many institutions now encourage siblings to be part of the acute care of your premature infant. At Children's Hospital, for example, we encourage siblings above the age of 2 to visit the premature infants in the hospital. Many hospitals have child care specialists that actually can help parents communicate with siblings what it's going to be like in the hospital. But going home and taking your baby home is also an important time for the siblings. And incorporating the sibling into the care of your baby at home is also important. Talk to your nurse or to your child care specialist or with other family members or family who have gone through the same thing, how you can optimize your family life now that you've brought your baby home.
