With respect to sleeping position, the acknowledged and safe position for infants, until they can turn over on their own at about four months, is back sleeping. We've been able to reduce the risk of sudden infant death by about 50 percent in the last several decades. The question as to whether or not a baby can safely sleep on their side is one that has been researched. There is still differences of opinion whether that is as safe as back sleeping. Our best recommendation is to contact your pediatrician and speak with he or she about any options with respect to side sleeping.
