Effective Tips That Will Protect Your Kids From Various Insects At Home

Protect Your Kids From Various Insects At Home

While insects and bugs are important to the ecosystem around us, we do not want them in our homes. People resent seeing any type of bugs in their homes and will go to whatever lengths necessary to exterminate them. What if you were able to stop them from getting in the first place? Here are some effective tips that will protect your kids from various insects at home.

Clean Up the Mess

The first thing that you need to do to protect you and your family from any insects is to clean up the home. This does not mean simply walking into each room and picking up garbage. It means giving each room a deep clean and sanitation. How can you go about doing this? There are two methods that you can use.

The first is to do it all yourself. Go about it one room at a time, tackling it and cleaning everything up. Move around furniture, vacuum all surfaces, and dust everything. Insects love dirty environments, and any bacteria or food traces leftover will draw them back towards the room. A clean home is one of the ultimate forms of pest prevention and keeping things out. Although it can take a long time, it is definitely worth it. Once every room is clean, you can relax and be happy with everything that you have accomplished.

The second option for you to choose is a pet friendly pest control. While it will cost money, it will save you a lot of time, allowing you to focus on your life and your work instead of getting the house in order. Either option works for keeping bugs out. It is up to you to decide which one you prefer.

Seal Doors and Windows

One of the most common ways insects get into our homes is through doors and windows. While we don’t notice any gaps in them, there are small little areas where bugs can easily crawl in and out of. All it takes is one of these insects to go in, find some food, and signal to their friends, your house will soon be filled with these pests.

Take a look at the bottom of each door and inspect each window when it is shut. Do you feel any breezes of air? If you do, it is a sign that there is a gap that can be used by pests. If there are screen doors or meshes along with your windows, check them for any holes as well. Replace anything that is damaged and make sure the mesh holes are small enough to prevent bugs from crawling through.

Clean Your Drains

While we will often make sure there is no food left around the house, we don’t think of any food that can be left behind in the drain. These pests are extremely good at locating and finding food. If there is anything clogged up in a drain, they will find a way into the home and find a way to it. How can you combat this? Simply pour some drain cleaner down the drain every so often. It will help to eat away anything on the edges and keep your drains in order.

Always Seal Food

Did you open a bag of chips, but couldn’t finish eating it? Or did you start having a few cookies? It is not good enough to throw these things into a cupboard. As mentioned above, pests such as rodents have an amazing sense of smell and are great at getting into small areas. If possible, take these foods out of their bags and move them into containers that can be vacuum-sealed. This will ensure that the smells cannot escape and attract any unwanted guests.

Home Remedies and Chemicals

If you already have insects in your home, you might have to take drastic measures to get them out. There are several home remedies that you can employ, such as chestnuts, vinegar, or oils to keep pests away. Depending on the pest, there will be a strategy for getting rid of them. If you want to go a little more extreme, you can get some chemicals and repellants and spray them in problematic areas.

These are all effective tips that will help protect you and your kids from the various insects at home. The best way to stop an infestation is not to let it happen in the first place, so ensure that you are doing everything you can to keep your home clean. When was the last time you cleaned each room?
