Planning the Perfect Gender Reveal Party

Gender Reveal Party

Is it a boy or a girl?! A gender reveal party often means guests eagerly awaiting an answer to that question. If this is your first-born child, it probably means you're equally excited to find out the gender of your baby and start planning for it’s arrival.

When the box of balloons bursts open or the piece of cake is cut, friends and family will be there to celebrate with you on a day filled with joy and congratulations! Why not plan the day to share a great moment with the ones closest to you? If this is your first rodeo, you may not know what is needed to create a perfect gender reveal party that will have guests entertained and excited. Look no further because we have some fun party planning tips that will make the day awesome!

Schedule your ultrasound

Obviously, you’ll need to schedule your ultrasound first to ensure you can find out the baby’s gender and start planning the date of your party. Ultrasounds are done during the second trimester around 18-20 weeks.

During the ultrasound, your obstetrician will be able to find if there is more than one fetus on your womb. Aside from determining the baby’s gender, a prenatal ultrasound will also allow you to confirm that your fetus is in a healthy condition and is growing properly on your womb. You may also be able to find your gestational age or due date in the ultrasound.

You can ask the sonographer to write the gender of the baby on a piece of paper and seal it in an enclosed envelope. That way, you can ensure you don’t accidentally see it or someone else blurts it out before you’re ready.

Never take an ultrasound before your 20th week, as the earlier stages of pregnancy will not show the baby’s gender accurately. Imagine preparing a pink cake to welcome your baby girl only to find out that your baby is actually a boy. What a waste! During this time, you can rely on gender prediction methods instead, while you’re still waiting for the 20th week of your pregnancy.

Decide who will be attending

You may want to stick to close friends and family for the reveal– as too many people could be overwhelming for you and your partner. Remember, the bigger the size of the party, the more you have to purchase. Since this time in your life is busy and stressful, plan wisely.

As you send your invitations for the gender reveal event, you can encourage them to answer a survey on what they think the gender of the baby is. This is a fun way of making a game on the gender reveal party where guests who have guessed the gender right will receive prizes.

Choose a theme

If you are sending invitations, you can choose a theme that matches the invites. It can be as simple as pink and blue or another fun theme like ties or tutus. Since you are still about to reveal the baby’s gender, it would be better to choose a unisex or gender-neutral theme as well.

Whatever the case, try to find decorations you enjoy and make it a fun event for everyone there. It is a great time to throw some humor into your party and make it uniquely yours!

Plan the reveal

When first finding out you’re pregnant, one of the first questions on your mind is probably “what will my baby’s gender be” and when can you find out the sex of the baby.

This is one of the most exciting parts! People tend to get really creative when it comes to gender reveal ideas. You can decide on the location as well whether it’s in your backyard, the park, or at a venue.

Here is a list of some creative ideas you can draw inspiration from:

  • Cutting a cake or cupcake

  • Balloon reveal

  • Pinata

  • Burnout powder pack

  • Sports themed reveal

  • Confetti cannons

  • Balloon darts

  • Glow sticks

  • Scavenger Hunt

Prepare the Games

To add some fun to the event, you can plan events centered around your upcoming baby. If you need help deciding on a name, you can create a name suggestion box to have guests help you pick. You can turn this into a game by reading them aloud and voting on your favorite one. You can also create a gender guessing game before you reveal and see what people predict the gender will be!

Other fun ideas include pink/blue lemonade or staches/lashes to have guests wear. Overall, the day is yours and it's your time to get creative and have fun with it!

Document the Event

Don’t forget to have your video camera or camera ready to go! Ask a friend or family member to be the designated photographer so you can enjoy the day without worrying about taking pictures. This event will be a great addition to your scrapbook, along with precious memories you’ll want to hold onto forever. You may want to think about creating a photo booth or incorporating your guests into some of the shots too!
