The Pros and Cons of Wearing Thongs

Thongs are an incredibly popular style of women's underwear. The style can be a bit controversial, with some women loving the thongs and other women loathing them. There are certainly some good and bad aspects to wearing a pair of thong underwear. Read on to learn some of the most common pros and cons.

Pro: Comfort

Many women find thongs to be quite comfortable. The thong fits nicely within the butt cheeks in a way that's fitted. Unlike other underwear such as bikinis or briefs, there's no need to worry about the fabric bunching up or wedging uncomfortably. This makes moving around in the underwear much easier. Women love wearing thongs all day long whether they're working, at the gym, or out with friends. They don't have to worry about what their underwear is doing.

Con: Uncomfortable

While many women find thongs to be comfortable to wear, others find the underwear unbearable. For some, having the fabric of the thong settled in the butt cheeks is irritating rather than comfortable. They prefer a fuller butt – such as in boy shorts or briefs. Fuller underwear also provides more coverage for cold weather as it has an extra layer of fabric compared to a thong.

Pro: Reduces Panty Lines

One of the biggest appeals of wearing thong underwear is not being concerned about panty lines. When wearing a fitted dress, skirt, or pants, regular underwear lines show easily. This can feel embarrassing for some women while others feel it distracts from their stunning outfits. So, if women want to avoid panty lines, they either need to wear a thong or go commando (wearing no underwear at all). Going commando isn't the most hygienic thing, so the best solution is to opt for a thong.

Con: Not Period-Friendly

During their menstrual cycle, women have a few choices: wear pads or panty liners or use a tampon or menstrual cup. Wearing a thong while using any of these period solutions can prove problematic, specifically with pads and panty liners. Simply put, pads and panty liners are not doable when wearing a thong. Pads and panty liners are meant to affix to a pair of underwear and are full in both the front and back. A thong is not, so it wouldn't fit.

Since tampons or menstrual cups don't require anything to affix to the underwear, they typically can be worn during your period. The only issue with tampons and thongs is that there's not much room for the string to go which could potentially cause some uncomfortable tugging.

Pro: Looks and Feels Sexy

Thongs definitely exude a sense of sexiness, even throughout a normal day. Wearing a thong with a partner can feel very erotic. Whether it's the style of the underwear itself or the material, it feels very sexy. Wearing thong underwear during your everyday activities can still feel sexy. It's a secret that only you know about which can be erotic. That feeling delivers a newfound level of confidence you'll enjoy all day long.

Con: Health Concerns

Since thongs tend to use less material, that can result in less coverage for your lady parts. Thongs can fit tightly as well. The fit means your genitals don't have a lot of breathable room which leads to trapped moisture in the area. When moisture becomes trapped, that can lead to infections such as urinary tract infections (UTI) or yeast infections. Some thongs are made with more breathable material, so if you're interested in wearing thongs but want to avoid infections, look for thong materials that offer more room to breathe.

Another concern associated with the tightness and limited fabric of thongs is how your genitals end up interacting with other clothing you're wearing. Clothing often contains dyes and additives that are residual chemicals and, when worn too close to our body and rub up against it, can have a negative effect on the skin. Since thongs don't provide as much coverage compared to fuller underwear, this can cause irritation, especially considering the skin in that area is particularly sensitive.

Conclusion

Thongs continue to be a must-have underwear option for women, whether it's an item they wear every day, for special occasions, or otherwise. While there are some pros and cons to wearing thongs, it all comes down to what is best and most comfortable for each individual woman.
