Many kids love starting their own book clubs, whether it’s after school, on weekends, or during the summer. I particularly recommend book clubs for kids who might not have found their love of reading yet, because when they read they do so independently and kids love the social aspect of reading. So if we can take something that’s always been an individual activity and make it social, then the kids get greater benefits academically but also socially. So if the kids can find peers that read the same kind of books that they like to read, family members, friends, neighbors – anywhere from two to five or six kids, probably more, can find a book club, so the kids can read together, they can come up with questions, they can discuss the books together. That will deepen their love of reading, also build academic skills and build no division and enthusiasm for the activity. Because it’s no longer a solo activity, it’s now a social activity.
