Transcription:
Lots of parents worry about their kids playing doctor and looking at and exploring each other's private parts. The time to worry is when the behavior is sexualized. Most of the time, when kids explore each other's body and they play doctor, they are good friends, they mutually agree to play the game, they've been playing another game and it happens spontaneously. They are playing family and suddenly somebody needs to go to the doctor, and the next thing you know, Johnny is checking out Jimmy's penis. This is very common in early childhood. It's part of their sexual development. When you worry is when the game is aggressive, the play is not mutual, when the children's behavior is very sexualized, very adult-like.

Sex Education Expert

Despite her 16 years of experience as a sexual health educator, Amy Lang found herself completely tongue-tied when her four year old son had "something very important" to tell her about his penis. Shocked by her discomfort, she realized if she was struggling, other parents must be too. She decided to combine her love of sex talking and her love of working with adults and started Birds + Bees + Kids in 2006.

Amy is a three time Mom’s Choice Award winner for her book, Birds + Bees + YOUR Kids - A Guide To Sharing Your Beliefs About Sexuality, Love and Relationships and DVD, Birds + Bees + Kids - The Basics. She is also the author of the book, Say What?! The Birds + Bees for Progressive Parents - What to Say and How to Say It!
