Transcription:
A visual processing disorder is when an individual has a difficult time perceiving what the eyes are seeing because their brain is not perceiving what their eyes are seeing. It's not that they need glasses because they can't see what they are seeing. It's the brain not able to properly understand the incoming information. In visual processing, there is a hierarchy of skills or things that need to happen in order for the brain to say, "I'm reading a letter. I'm reading a word. I'm reading a paragraph." When you have a visual processing disorder, what it might look like in a child, they are not perceiving the difference between a number, a letter, or a shape. If that's the case, it's going to look like they don't understand what a letter, number, or a shape is because what they are telling you is completely different. It's because their brain hasn't processed it properly. Another really good example of a visual processing disorder is kids who skip words when they are reading or they might skip a whole line. It's because their eyes aren't tracking, they are not processing that information, so their brain is not receiving that information.
