So what should we do with a child who’s not a good athlete? Should we make him continue with sports? My answer to that is, “As long as possible.” There’ll come a point where they can no longer play sports. They won’t be able to keep up at all with the other kids and they’ll get either cut from them team, or they’ll be so miserable that they won’t want to play. But until that happens, the benefits of working together with other teammates, learning about success and failure, how to deal with relationships, how to deal with coaches and other kids and parents that are screaming at the game – all the things that go on in life and in these sports – it’s such a huge benefit for those kids. Keep them in as long as you can, but then ultimately, at point where they’re miserable, you have to let it go.
