A lot of people wonder if unschooling and going to college go hand in hand. There's a lot of unschoolers who go to college. That being said, i wouldn't agree that college is the right path for every child. I think that there are so many different learning opportunities or entrepreneurial opportunities out there that the money might be spent in a better way. I hate to see kids in elementary school where the parents main focus is getting them in to college in 15 years. It really takes away from their development of their self and who they are. My hope is that if my kid wants to go to college, then he'll know why he wants to go and what he wants to study. That he won't just be following some track to happiness and success. I think that he'll have the skills that he needs. He could have an online portfolio or a real-life portfolio. Colleges today are more and more looking for home schooled kids, unschooled kids, kids that have taken an alternative path, because they're freer thinkers, they're innovative, and they're not just jumping through hoops and doing their community service and getting straight As. I mean, at the end of the day, all those kids really start to look the same. And colleges are really starting to look for new minds.
