Parents can help their teens do better in school through a number of different ways. Number 1, it's really imperative you teach your kids to work before they play. One of the most common problems that I see with the kids that come in especially the younger ones that are between 6th and 9th grade aren’t doing homework because it’s not fun so they procrastinate. When they procrastinate, they don’t get work done. They do it last minute. They create a lot of stress and tension for themselves as with their parents. I think they would need to do is force them to work before they play. You come home, get your work done. When your work’s done, you do your chores. When your chores are done, you can do whatever you want with the rest of the day. I think it’s also important for parents not to check their kid’s grades online. Now, in today’s technology and society, parents can get daily reports. If you're getting daily reports as a parent and how do you recommend? You unsubscribe because this is a recipe for disaster and it’s micromanagement because the minute your kid gets in the car, “you didn’t turn this in?” “I did turn it in. They didn’t update it yet” and you get all this stuff. It’s not worth it. We recommend if you can check your kid’s grade online, you check once a week every Friday. Set them an expectation level of overall grades for your kids. If they're at that level or above that Friday until the next Friday when you check it again, they get full privileges. If they're below that, there’s some type of consequence that last until you check the next Friday. End of story.
