Calling jobs chores is probably the first thing that I would cut from the vocabulary at your house. Getting kids to feel responsible and helpful will actually encourage them to want to help. And you will find that using different terminology will actually encourage kids to want to participate and be involved, especially if those jobs are things that you do together. If you both take the garbage out together, or just simply using this activity as a way to connect with your children, rather than sending them off to do something that of course nobody really likes to do.
