Let's face it. At one time or another, our kids are going to hang out with a kid or a group of kids that we think are bad influence. And this is one of those times where you have to pray that the foundation you've given your child will be enough for them to get through this time period because you're not going to be able to prevent them from hanging out with those kids. It's going to be at school. It's going to be at a playground. It's going to be at sporting events. They're going to hang out with who they choose to hang out with. We found in our experience that if you engage your kids and ask them, "who are your friends, what are their interests, what are they doing, when you're with so and so, what do you guys do? " Just don't punish. Don't accuse. Ask. And they'll reveal a little. They can reveal a lot but you need to continue to instill in them the values that you've tried to raise them with. We found that eventually even though our kids were hanging around with the bad group, if they were lighting up cherry bombs or they were smoking marijuana or they were doing whatever, our kids made the right choice eventually. That again goes back to the beginning. It's the foundation you lay.
