My tips for connecting and having the best relationship possible with my step-child are really taking the time to spend with her to get to know her. Get to know her likes and dislikes. Spend special time with her, away from the family and away from my own child, so that I make her really feel important. She is able to tell me the things that are going on in her life. I talk with her on a daily basis, her social life, what's going on in school. I am able to take extra time to be with her. I also get to participate in her activities. I take her to soccer and softball. I play with her outside, and I get to participate in volunteering as a team mom, doing things of that nature; so that I can stay connected and really make her feel important.
