Simplicity is an important concept in a lot of areas of behavior change, when someone is trying to make radical lifestyle changes which is necessary to successful weight control. It's really helpful to understand things in the simplest possible terms. Three simple behavioral goals that work for weight control are; one, eat as little fat as possible. Aim for zero fat grams. It's a very difficult goal, but it's a very useful aspirational goal. The second is to get a lot of activity as measured on a pedometer, 10,000 steps a day. It's about five miles worth, but it is more than twice as much as the average adults get and it's a lot more than sedentary overweight kids get. The third one is incredibly important is to keep track of what you are eating. It's called self-monitoring. You are writing it down, keeping track of how much fat you are consuming, looking at calories. If you put those three together, you have a radical, successful lifestyle change that will help you lose weight, for most people, most of the time.
