What is reflective communication?

Reflective communication is an exchange of ideas. It actually highlights, mirrors, and reflects what somebody is thinking, inferring, understanding, or trying to express. Reflective communication in a parent/child relationship is so critical because adds to the nurturing, tender, trusting quality of that parent/child relationship. Essentially, the child learns that their parent really does understand them. It really does help foster their social and emotional development. Reflective communication is not something that comes naturally. It is something that can be learned and practiced over time.
