Coping with temper tantrums

What to do with a child throwing a tantrum is quite a difficult question. But one of the things that’s really important to keep in mind is that tantrums are a good thing. Think about toddlers and their world. They’re learning all these fantastic things they can do. They can climb into their car seat. They can start dressing and undressing. They can help feed themselves and take care of their bodies. And the world is really a fun, exciting place for them. However, when they get angry, frustrated or sad, it’s often a huge challenge for them. I view tantrums as almost a sort of emotional volcanic eruption. So I think when a parent understands what a tantrum is, it’s much easier to not take it personally. Parents do need to figure out, however, what some triggers are. Sometimes when they’re hungry or over stimulated, or tired, children are more apt to have tantrums. So parents be aware of some of those things that you can do to help decrease the amount and the length of tantrums.
