Parents often ask, what are some tips for teaching my child how to read? There are a couple of things that are really, really important. Reading is being able to understand the words, as well as, pulling the words off the page. To understand words, the most important thing for parents to do is read to their children, and talk about what they are reading. Even the simplest of children's books have wonderfully rich language in them. That's how children's vocabulary grows is when their parents read to them from a very early age, through adolescence. Learning how to read individual words can really be enhanced by playing games with sounds. Rhyming is a wonderful thing to do. Children's games like pig latin, is a wonderful game that allows them to play with words. Those are some of the things that parents know how to do and enjoy doing. As many times as you can have fun around the act of reading, the more they are going to enjoy it, and move towards it.
