Traditional parenting is not the most effective approach as far as I'm concerned in terms of discipline and here's why. So, traditional parenting responds to behavior essentially. If your child is having a tantrum or throwing a fit or talking back, traditional parenting says that we respond to that behavior and we try to stop it. We try to stop the tantrum. We try to stop little Bobby from punching his brother in the head. That concernedly worked to some degree and it certainly in some cases is really effective short-term solution. It doesn't really serve the long-term solution which is helping little Bobby figure out why he's so upset and then giving him tools to express that or communicate that more effectively to us without having to punch his little brother.
