We were so happy to see Julian become more self-aware. With kids with autism, they're so walled off sometimes, and Julian was definitely that profile. Contact, interaction, really living in his own world. And one of the things that we began to experience was that he, as he started to become more connected and plugged in, he realized from hearing us - and we were always very open about it - that he had autism. And he started to gain an understanding of what that meant. And there were times that he actually even used it almost manipulatively. Like he would scream or something, or he wanted something and people would hear, and he would say, "I have autistic." And he was like using it. And at first, it was like, eeh. And then it was like, "oh my gosh! What progress, that he's becoming so self-aware."
