When know that bullying is becoming an epidemic in our schools. When I first started teaching years back, it was one out of seven kids that were bullied. It is now, one out of three.
Here is the point that we may be overlooking; 85 percent of kids that are on a school campus who are witnessing bullying, are not a bully or a victim. They are what is called, a bystander. Research from the University of Toronto says that we should be mobilizing those kids compassion and teaching them how. Research says, that if we teach them the right skills, safely, they can step in and actually reduce bullying, in less than a minute, 60 percent of the time.
The danger is or, really, the disservice to our kids, is that we don't teach the skills enough, how. So the bullying continues.
Mobilize your kids. Teach them how to step in. What we will be doing is making a difference on our school campuses, and making more and more kids safe.
