Plateaus are inevitable in weight loss. It becomes interesting to try and predict when someone might hit that plateau. That's very, very difficult to do, but research has demonstrated a few things that helps in that kind of prediction. Surprisingly, when a person starts a weight loss journey with the right kind of help, the right kind of help being a program that involves Well Springs or some other cognitive behavior therapy to help the process efficient and as effective as possible. Whether it's a child or an adult, you can see if they are into it or not. The really into it people designation goes to the ones who self-monitoring at 100 percent. They are writing everything down. They are talking about it. They are thinking about it. They are talking to their friends and neighbors. They come back for a session and are just full of, "I did this, and I tried that." You see the energy in a person. It could be a 12 year old or an 80 year old. If you see that kind of energy, you can tell that person is going to have an easier course with the weight control process. If someone comes in and they spotty on their self-monitoring. They are moaning and groaning about the process. You can certainly predict they are going to hit a plateau a lot sooner and a lot harder than that really eager beaver person. Even the most eager and excited phrenetic weight controllers will hit plateaus. It will just be later in the course of the effort and it might be gentler and not take as much of a toll.
