Parents should explain birth control to their teens even if they don’t want their teen to become sexually active, because it’s better to prepare for the worst and plan for the best. You just don’t know what’s going to happen with your teenager, so if your teen knows about birth control, knows where to get it, and knows that it’s important to use if they decide to be sexually active, the chances are increased that they will actually use it. At the end of the day, we can’t control our teenagers, but we can help them to make really good decisions about their sexual health. So you have to decide – is it more important that your child be clueless about birth control and have sex anyway, or understand about birth control and have sex anyway.

Despite her 16 years of experience as a sexual health educator, Amy Lang found herself completely tongue-tied when her four year old son had "something very important" to tell her about his penis. Shocked by her discomfort, she realized if she was struggling, other parents must be too. Amy also holds an MA in Applied Behavioral Science and her focus was in adult education and group facilitation. She decided to combine her love of sex talking and her love of working with adults and started Birds + Bees + Kids in 2006.

She offers talks, workshops, one-on-one consultations and live webcasts.
