Being assertive can really be a challenge for some girls. There is still a lot of pressure for girls to be nice and kind. I call it sometimes the tyranny of nice and kind because it can inhibit them from being assertive, appropriately expressing anger and standing up for themselves. One of the key things that you can do is to role model assertive behavior and let your daughter know that you're doing that. So, if you have a situation at work or with a friend and you're able to assertively address that, share that at home. Let your daughter know about that and then validate her for efforts that she makes, appropriately express her anger, be assertive and stand up for herself.
