Scheduling one-on-one time with your daughter

Just this week I was talking to a mom who was expressing, in great frustration, the fact that she does not have one-on-one time with her daughter that feels like quality time. Everything is scheduled in such a busy way. The focus is always on, when do we need to be there, when is it due, where do we have to go, et cetera. Scheduling a one-on-one appointment with your daughter gives you a way to get away from that. Your relationship with your daughter and your daughter deserves that. You may get a "ga-faw" at the beginning of your proposal of this. Let that be okay. Let her pick the place. It may be her favorite coffee house. It may be the park. Go hang out there once a week, once a month. This is her time to talk about whatever she wants and for you to bite your tongue when you want to give advice or address a conflict. Listen, play, and have fun.
