It is not uncommon for girls six years old and up to be worried about being fat and to wonder if they should be on a diet. One of the things that we can do is help girls move beyond a sense of their bodies in terms of appearance and help them focus on the things that their bodies can do, moving beyond appearance. What are the things that they can enjoy in their bodies? How does their body feel after they have had a good run or a good swim or a massage at bed time or they have just eaten a sweet, juicy strawberry? Helping kids tune into the things their bodies can do and the things that they can enjoy in life because they have a body is a really wonderful way of expanding their experience of who they are in their bodies.
