It can be so emotional for our daughters and for us when they are in conflict with their friends. One of the best things that we can do, it’s like a mantra that I keep in my pocket, respond, don’t react. What I need to do to respond not react is either to take some deep breaths to settle my nervous system or my other favorite is what I call feeling gravity. I let myself really feel my feet in the earth in the ground and take a few moments and just breathe in to that. That then helps quiet my mind and settle me so that I can be more available to listen to my daughter, to validate the ways that she is getting through the day and handling this and when she’s ready, it helps me to be available to her to find some solutions.
