Traveling With Your College Students

travel with teens

Having a family means more fun and hopefully more travel! The best part about having a college student is that you get to relive all the travel and experiences all over again. College students are still young, yet old enough to be independent–meaning it’s the best time to get them out in the world to explore new places. There are so many amazing locations that are family friendly. You will look back and be grateful that you took the time to vacation with your family while you had the opportunity. Keep reading to find some family fun ideas for your next trip!

Amusement Park

Who doesn’t love roller coaster rides? They’re so fun and a thrill. Amusement parks come in many forms, from exhibit-based parks to roller coaster only parks. Everyone knows about Disneyland and Disney World being one of the world’s most famous theme parks. However, if you’d rather not travel all the way there, try doing some research to find a local theme park in your area. Usually, you can spend a full day at the park and get your money’s worth. You can find shows, parades, food, and rides at a theme park. Your family will have the best day together, taking part in all the activities.

Ski Vacations

If your college-age children haven’t been to the snow yet, then it’s a great time to take them. While it’s still winter, there is snow on all the mountains that you can travel to. Try signing your family up for ski and snowboard lessons so they can prepare to take on the snow without falling (too much). If your family doesn’t enjoy skiing or snowboarding, then you may want to go sledding, which is just as fun! You can also get out there and build snowmen or snowball fights against each other. Either way, your family can make the most of the winter this season by planning a ski trip.

National Parks

National parks exist across the nation. There are many great national parks on the west coast like Yosemite National Park, Zion National Park, and the Grand Canyon. National parks usually allow for camping near or on the national park grounds, making it easy for you to access all the hikes and trails you need. Not only that, but you’ll get to make a bonfire and roast marshmallows–what 19-year-old can say no to that? Depending on the park you go to, you can enjoy many features such as famous hikes or shuttles that enter the beautiful preserves that exist. Visiting a National Park is a great family trip, even if you don’t decide to camp.

Tropical Vacation

Although it is winter right now, there are many places around the world that currently have summer. Locations like Mexico, have a different geographical location making it warmer during winter. Australia also gets a summer during our winter. Think about taking your family to these parts of the world to embark on a fun tropical vacation. You can swim in warm waters and splash around in the pool. Additionally, college students are old enough that they won’t cry on a plane or complain too much like younger children might.

Visiting Family

The great part about having family across the world is that you can visit them anytime you want–as long as they’re okay with it, of course. Depending on where they live, you can ask them to be tourists for your kids who have so much wanderlust. You also will save some money by choosing this type of vacation over a more expensive one. Hopefully, they will let your family stay with them during the length of the trip. It will also pay off to have your college students spend more time with their family members who live further away!

Home Activities

Even though you might not think so, staying home can be fun if you make it!

After all, you’ve been sending countless care packages to your student’s secure university lockers just so you can remain in their busy lives. So it’s no surprise if you wish to stay at home with your college kids and family to soak up all the time you have with them. Not only that, but there are many significant activities you can plan nearby your home, such as renting bikes, kayaking, and painting or creating art. You could also let them choose what they missed most about home, like a classic home-cooked meal or a movie marathon. Either way, staying home isn’t the worst idea for a college student who misses family time!
