The technology of ultrasounds have changed the patient's ability to view and get a glimpse of their baby before the actual birth of the child. Ultrasounds are sound waves that reflect off the baby and create an image on the screen. The traditional ultrasound is the 2d ultrasound. It's a simple black or white image that's seen on the doctor's screen and it reflects on the surface of the baby the sound waves. A 3d ultrasound are again using sound waves. However, these sound waves reflect off the baby at different parts of the baby's body. This creates an image where you get intricate details of the surface of the baby's face and his or her body so you can actually visualize the features of your baby. A 4d ultrasound is very similar to the 3d ultrasound, except you are now seeing your baby in real time. You can watch your baby move and see the detailed surface features of the baby just as 3d, but in a video format. Ultrasounds are perfectly safe to use during pregnancy. They have been utilized since 1965. There's no radiation or long-term consequences to the baby. These are simply sound waves and they're not at all harmful for your pregnancy.
