Working when your kid is sick

When you have a sick child and you need to go to work, it can be so stressful. My suggestion is that you create a plan before this happens, create a few plans. Talk to your employer and find out what are your rights in this situation? Is there a way you could work from home if this should happen? What are some alternatives that they might suggest? Talk to your spouse. Maybe you can split a workday and have your spouse go in the morning and you go for the rest of the day, so that each of you just takes a half-day. If you've got family around you or friends, sometimes a stay-at-home working mom or dad, if it's a good friend, might be willing to help in a situation like that. I think my key advice is: Have those plans in place. Have those conversations before your child gets sick, so you don't have that stress happening that morning.
