Once your kids leave home, parent want to stay connected to their children. My suggestion is be somebody that they want to be connected to. What the means is, be fun, be interested in them. See if you can take off your parenting hat every so often and just be interested in their life like a friend might be. You are always there for them as a parent, if they need advice or in some kind of trouble, you can step in put that hat back on. Be somebody that your kids feel like, "Wow, I want to call up mom because she will think this is great that this happened. " Be somebody who is willing to go out with your kids at night if you are invited, with their friends. Try to let go of judgments about what they are choosing to do. Be open to their life as they're designing it and I think they will want you to be connected to them.
