We all have to go out to eat eventually, right? I mean, let’s face it; I don’t want to cook every single meal every day of the week in my home. So what I have is my 80/20 rule. 80% of the time, I’m providing my family with the most amazing food that I can provide for them, and then there’s that 20% when we go to birthday parties, or we go out to eat in a restaurant, or we do anything outside of the home that I have no control over. Well, when I’m inside the home, I have control and it’s healthy food. When we’re outside of the home, I let it fly. Why do I let it fly? Because I don’t want to make my kids neurotic. If we’re going to a birthday party, I want them to eat the pizza and enjoy the cake just like everybody else. And I will let them enjoy the cake, because the vast majority of the time what I’m providing to them is really good, wholesome food. You want to walk that tightrope of wanting them to be healthy but not wanting them to be neurotic, and that’s the way I do it.
