San Diego is a great place to live. Not only is it one of the most beautiful and temperate cities in the world, it's also a great place to raise a family. From brewpubs to attorneys, here's our list of the six most family-friendly businesses in San Diego are:
Craft Beer & Pizza
Blind Lady Ale House (or BLAH for short) is a San Diego brewpub with amazing pizza and an equally stunning tap list. The four owners, along with Chef Thomas Morstad, help create a laid-back Southern California vibe with elevated cuisine and friendly service. What about the beer? Try honest pours of fresh independent beer on a short-draw, all-stainless draft system with the cleanest lines in town. There's a reason BLAH has been named to Draft Magazine's 100 Best Beer Bars in America every year it has been opened. It's also one of the places in town that regularly carries rare beers from Russian River, Cellarmaker, pFriem, Bottle Logic, and other sought-after breweries. Regulars will tell you that BLAH is a place where the community gathers. The decor is warm and inviting; be sure to check out the vintage skateboard collection in the so-called Hamm's Room, the collection of kids' books, and the live jazz jam sessions on Thursday nights. And one more thing--half of BLAH's ownership is vegan, so there is always a variety of vegan pizzas and specials on the menu.
More Craft Beer!
Waypoint Public House is another family-friendly brewpub in the metro San Diego area. BLAH is located in Normal Heights, and Waypoint Public is located in nearby North Park. If you didn't mind a long walk, you could spend an afternoon starting at one of these establishments and ending up at the other, stopping off at various shops and restaurants along the way. Waypoint isn't just family-friendly; there's actually a play area in the middle of the restaurant. While parents order food and drinks, kids can run around that designated area. As for food portions, they are on the generous side and generally focused on comfort food.
A Nostalgic 1950s-Style Diner
All kids and families should experience a true diner experience at least once in their lives. The Corvette Diner in San Diego is modeled on the old-fashioned diners. The staff wears 1950s-style attire and are known to sing while serving burgers and shakes. Not only is the Corvette Diner known for being an authentic 50s American diner, but they're also known for their quality food and drinks. Furthermore, people flock to this location because of how family-friendly it is. If you go on the birthday of anyone in your party, they're in for a real treat!
A Family-Oriented Attorney
Briggs Law Corporation is owned by Cory Briggs, a San Diego attorney who specializes in public-interest litigation. The law firm has been in San Diego since 2002 and works with family-owned small businesses that often find themselves in legal disputes with much larger entities. We mention Cory in this list of family-friendly businesses because he seems to thrive when taking the side of the underdog and has helmed many David vs. Goliath cases for family-owned businesses over the years.
A Children's Clothes Boutique
Sweetpea Fine Children's Clothing in Del Mar is a children's clothing shop that has been around since the mid 1980s. Here's a line directly from their website: "We are a full-service boutique that offers one help with everything from baby layette to helping you pick the perfect outfit for the child in your life!" If you're looking for swimsuits, shoes, cardigans, hats, bodysuits, rompers, or any other apparel or accessory, you'll probably find it at Sweetpea. They specialize in newborns, babies, and larger children.
Gifts for Children
Magical Child, located in Encinitas, is a cute boutique store that sells an array of kid-friendly products. The store's motto is 'unique and timeless gifts.' They sell a lot of different things, such as baby items, kids' apparel, toys, books, and footwear. For a small business, the shop itself is a good size, and you can easily spend a good half-hour inside of it. It's worth pointing out that Magical Child has been in Encinitas for over two decades.
