DIY Hair Conditioners For Kids - Get Rid of Crazy Morning Hair

Hair Conditioners For Kids

Kids get bad hair days too! When it comes to doing your kids hair, we all know what a hassle that can be. If your kids have a head of hair, they’re likely going to wake up with some crazy morning locks. Getting them to sit still while you tackle their hair is a whole new challenge.

What’s the solution to those messy hair days? Other than surrendering to the battle and just letting your kids continue with their messy hair, what can you do? The best way to fight frizz, mess, and crazy locks is with a conditioner. Kids can’t usually sit through more intense hair treatments, so this is the best option to maximize your time while making your kid’s hair shine.

Creating your own hair conditioner is the best way to get salon style treatments at home without the price tag. Better yet, you can be confident that you’re using the safest ingredients for your kids sensitive scalps. Say goodbye to dry, damaged hair and say hello to smooth mornings with these DIY hair conditioners for kids below.

1. Banana Hair Mask

A banana hair mask is one of the most fun DIY hair conditioners for kids. What kid doesn't love bananas? You’ll only need a few ingredients, most of which are probably already in your kitchen. Have your kids help you whip up this fun hair solution and you’ll be on your way.

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg

Mix all of the ingredients together until you’ve created a paste. It’ll be sticky, so help your child apply the paste to the hair and leave it for 15 - 30 minutes. If you’re concerned about your child tasting the mixture, leave the egg out.

Bananas are great for hair that’s prone to frizz. Because they’re full of vitamins and natural oils, they protect hair’s natural elasticity. This is the perfect mask to do once a week for stress-free mornings.

2. Argan Oil Treatment

Argan oil might not be something you have in your home right now, but it’s definitely something you should get soon. Argan oil, often used in shampoos comes from the Argan oil in Morocco, and it’s been used for hundreds of years as a beauty treatment and is known for it's restorative qualities.  You can harness its power on your own by creating an easy hair treatment for your kids.

What makes argan oil so magical? The secret is in the fat content which is a rich source of vitamin E, the vitamin that helps your hair look its best. This is such a great hair treatment you might want to save some to use yourself. Parents need great hair too!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp argan oil
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Optional: lavender essential oil

Mix all of the ingredients together to create a rich oil. It’s best to use pure argan oil like these from the Argan Oil Shop. This is the only way to make sure there are no unnecessary additives. Massage the oil into your kid’s hair and scalp, paying close attention to the ends which tend to be more dry. Let the oil sit overnight or for at least an hour before washing it out with shampoo.

3. Yogurt Hair Conditioner

If your child is prone to dirty hair like many kids are, you should give this yogurt hair conditioner a try. Yogurt has natural cleaning properties thanks to its lactic acid and protein content. Since it’s all natural, it’s perfectly safe for kids to put in their hair (and even eat).

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup plain yogurt (full fat)
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

That’s all there is to it. Mix the ingredients together and apply them to the hair like a mask. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes before washing out, and your kids are good to go. This is one of the yummiest DIY masks, and kids will have a blast making it.

4. Tropical Conditioning

Finally, if your child has hair that’s curly or natural, it needs some extra moisture that a regular conditioner can’t deliver. This tropical conditioning treatment repairs broken strands and protects hair from the elements.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of coconut milk
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tbsp mango butter or oil (substitute olive oil)

Mix all of the ingredients together and warm them slightly in the microwave to activate the ingredients. From there, apply the mixture to your child’s clean damp hair and cover with a conditioning cap for at least half an hour.

Coconut milk is full of vitamins and lauric acid which continues things like iron and calcium. Basically, it strengthens your hair and soothes, making it perfect for curly hair.
