Using consequences in discipline can be a little tricky. Sometimes they are used as a threat, which I don't recommend. I recommend using consequences in a very natural and normal way. Children need to know that all actions have a ramification or repercussion of sorts. Two kinds of consequences I recommend. One would be natural consequences. They are just as they sound. If a child is fussy and not putting their shoes on or sunblock on for on the way to the park, they are late getting to the park. Their park time is shortened. That's a natural consequence of their behavior. The other kind of consequence is a logical consequence. That's one that is, sort of, fabricated by the parent, but it also makes sense. For example, a four year old who forgets to put his helmet on while riding his bike, he loses his privilege of riding his bike for a period of time. A teen who misuses their computer time, loses the privileges for a period of time. Natural consequences and logical consequences are the best to help parents be effective disciplinarians.
