There are many things that you can do to improve your baby's outcome in the NICu. First off, it's very important to become a team member in your child's care. The nurses and the doctors each day go through what they called rounds and you can participate in that. You can be there as they're discussing the plan of care, and as they are discussing what they're going to do and what changes they're going to make. It's important to vocalize your opinion, you know your child and you know when something is different, and when something is just a little bit off. And you will be the first person to notice that before the nurses and before the doctors. And being able to say that is important, it's also important to have a relationship with those nurses and doctors, so that they know that you are there to help them, help your baby. So that its not a combative relationship, you against the doctors. But that you are working together to find the best way to keep your baby healthy and safe. Do research but be careful about what you look for on the internet. There are so many different ways of finding out information. So a neonatologist and the nurses where they recommend that you find information or where they would recommend that you look up conditions. Because some of that information is scary and overwhelming and you don't need to have that stress.
