In our culture more than half of babies are conceived without being intended. And we don’t tend to think that conception is a parenting stage. But we actually have research now that shows that as early as the two cell stage of development, which is just hours after conception, there is different action of growth hormone on the surface of the cell based on the mother’s emotional quality.
So my book, Parenting for Peace, is based on the seven steps. The first one is before conception. Step two is conception. It’s very front-loaded. And there’s a lot of interesting research about our mental action, the attitude and consciousness we have upon, for example, the bio informational aspects of water. Well, a fertilized egg is probably 98% water, so there’s some very interesting indications that say, “Hey, hold conception as a mindful thing.” You don’t have to do rose petals and sage and anything, it’s just about holding a consciousness of, “We might be welcoming in our child right now.”
