Undoubtedly one of the biggest issues parents have with their children interrupting them at inappropriate times. The reason they are inappropriate is that the adult realizes that, at that moment, there is something important that they are doing something or they are having a conversation with someone. This is an inappropriate time. Children haven't learned that yet, some children haven't. In those times, it's about a lesson that they are learning over time, not figuring it out immediately. What I suggest to parents in those situations is letting your child know exactly what you want from them. Many times, parents say, "I'm talking right now. Don't bother me." Your child isn't learning anything from that. When you stop and you look them in the eyes and say, "Right now, I am having an important conversation with someone. In a few minutes, I will be finished and I will listen to what you have to say." Be firm about it, respectful, and consistent every time that happens. As long as you keep that conversation short and go back to your child, not make them wait too long. Your child will respect that a little bit more over time, your child will respect that better and learn over time.
