Is there anything worse than waking up out of a dead sleep at 2:00 in the morning to a kid who's soaking wet from the waist down and the bed looks like it was dropped in a lake? There's nothing worse. But we all go through it. The first thing that we need to do is to understand that children can't help, biologically, they cannot help going to the bathroom in the bed. But there are things that you can do to cut down on the incidents of them wetting the bed until their bodies are mature enough to handle fluid in their bodies. And so what I did with my daughters was I made sure that they didn't drink anything at least an hour and a half before bedtime. We have bathroom checks leading all the way up to bedtime. "I don't care if you say you don't have to go to the bathroom. Sit it down and make it happen. LIke do what you gotta do." And then go out of your way, before you go to bed as a mother, we would wake her up. So if she went to bed at 8:30, at 11, "Come on, make it happen. Sit on the toilet. Let's get it going." And then you put them back in the bed. That drastically decreased how often she went to the bathroom in the bed at night.
