Pressure is good for kids. You can't have your child walking this earth thinking that they don't have to try. Putting pressure on them shows them what they can achieve, how it's not easy to do it, but it can be done. My little girls know that As are a given because they're smart enough to get As. And if they come home with a B we're going to discuss why what should have been an is a B, not because I feel like they're failures, but because I know what they're capable of. So it's not so much pressure as it is reminding them what they're capable of. Of course, there are people who will argue that putting too much pressure on a child can be detrimental to them. I tend to think differently. I think that there are specific things that you can apply just a little bit of pressure if you know what your child is capable of. So I know that my kid can't run a marathon tomorrow. I'm not going to put pressure on her to do that. But I know what she's capable of. I know that she's capable of getting As. I know that if she practices her trumpet, she's going to be a fantastic trumpet player. You know, applying that pressure and helping them to understand what they're powerful at, what they're good at helps them be better people.
