I think one of the most important thing we need to do with our teens is to help them to understand the law of the farm. What I mean by that is, you reap what you sow. With the whole concept of responsibility, we allow natural consequences to be the teacher of our teens, in particular. They are at the age that their choices, have to be their choices. The law of the farm says, you don't do X, you don't get Y. You don't plant a grain, you don't get a crop. We help our children to learn how to be responsible, particularly in our teens, by allowing them to fail and to experience their natural consequences. You are mean to your mom? All of a sudden, "You know, gosh, honey, I don't really feel like taking you to the mall." People operate in relation to each other, and when you treat me in a disrespectful way, I really don't want to serve you. That's the law of the farm. We work in relation to each other. When you act in a way that is responsible and kind, people can respond that way back to you.
