Limiting social media

Now there is limits on how old you need to be to be on Facebook and Twitter and all different reasons why 12 year old should not have access to a phone and social media. I have explained to my daughter that reason that she can not have a phone and the reason why she can not have a Facebook page or be on Twitter is not so much because I do not trust her. It is because I do not trust the access that it gives everyone else. I would never let her be out on a street and start talking to a 20 year old man. But that opened- Letting her have a phone or letting her have a Facebook page allows this access of 20 year old men to my daughter in a way that I have no control over. It could happen when I am not looking. It could happen when I think that she is sleeping. All of these different ways that there is access towards her or to other people. So I explained to her you are just to young. You are too young for that access to be had. You are too young to open that door to all of these other situations that you don't necessarily understand right now. She doesn't like that. But hey it is what it is. I am the mother for a reason, and she is a kid for a reason. When I feel she is ready for the different situations that come from other people having access to her then she can have a cell phone. Then she can have a Facebook page. But until then you are not going to be a 12 year old with a cell phone and access to You Tube. It is not happening.
