It's easy to look at an authoritarian parenting style and think that you're going to raise well-mannered, respectful, thoughtful, kind kids. And for a while you might. But underneath all of that control of the child is a child who's trying to get control of their own life. And if they can't do it honestly with their parents, they start to go underground.
And so what you start to get early adolescence is children who start to try and control other kids. And that moves into bullying. They start to sneak so that they don't get caught, because the punishments are pretty severe in an authoritarian parenting home. They also start to get pretty sneaky so that they don't get caught and then you have a real problem because there's a disconnect between parents.
On the flip side, you also get kids who are so used to being controlled that they are easy targets for other people to come in and take the place of a parent as the parent starts to lose their influence.
