When my child doesn´t want to do something like clean their room, it´s hard. I think that they just have to do certain things. And if they don´t, they don´t get privileges. Like if you are not going to do chores or help out around the house, then you don´t get to watch TV that night. I like to have immediate consequences. I don´t feel like long term consequences work like next week you can´t go to the party. That doesn´t work with a five year old or an eight year old. It´s usually pretty immediate like tonight I don´t think you helped mommy very much and you weren´t very good at helping mommy do that, so you are not going to get to watch TV tonight. I just try to have immediate consequences and I really think it helps do something. If you have too long term or tomorrow or the next day, it doesn´t really give little kids incentive to do what you want them to do.
