I think the general rule is, if they are under the age of three, it's best not to take them to a restaurant. But if you have to take them to a restaurant, you have to have things for them to do. You can't expect a three year old, or any of my three year olds, to sit through dinner at a nice restaurant. You have to know, ahead of time, that this is like an eating tonight. It's not going to be a nice relaxing dinner where you can have a relaxing dinner because then you will just get irritated with your kids. So I think having something for your kids to do, even my older kids. Every time I go to a restaurant, I have a bag and crayons in my purse. I have something for them to do. We do word finds or play a little game like ask 20 questions. I engage my kids. I don't think you can just expect your kids to sit with their hands in their lap and behave. I think you have to give them something to do.
